In the documentary “Dog Gone,” Rob Lowe plays real-life dad John Marshall, who hikes the Appalachian Trail to find his son Fielding’s dog Gonker (Johnny Berchtold).

On January 13, 2023, the movie will be available on Netflix. Marshall’s brother-in-law, Pauls Toutonghi, wrote a book called Dog Gone: A Lost Pet’s Extraordinary Journey and the Family Who Brought Him Home. In it, he tells the whole story.
