Kevin Conroy, 66, passed away on Thursday in Manhattan. He was most known for his role as Batman’s voice actor for nearly three decades. Vaughn C. Williams, his husband, has confirmed his passing. Conroy’s colon cancer was a long-standing problem.

Former husband of Mr. Conroy, Mr. Williams, has this to say about him: “It seemed to me that he was Batman.” He had a rough upbringing and had to deal with various physical limitations, but he nevertheless managed to grow into a fantastic person.
Despite Mr. Conroy’s lack of enthusiasm for comic books, the show’s writer and producer, Alan Burnett, told The Times that the producers were “transfixed” by the “gravitas” he brought to the part of Batman in the animated series. Debuting on Fox Kids in 1992.
Childhood and Adolescence of Kevin Conroy
Kevin Conroy was born on November 30, 1955, in Westbury, Long Island. He spent most of his childhood in Westport. Thomas Conroy worked as an executive for Pan American World Airways, while his wife Patricia worked as a nurse. He was the youngest of Thomas and Patricia’s four kids. When he was 15 years old, his drunken father caused the breakdown of his strictly Irish Catholic family.
In response to the question of where he felt most at home, he responded, “onstage in school productions.” He then proceeded to graduate high school early while living with friends.
To hone his acting skills, he enrolled in Juilliard on full scholarship at age 17. He shared a flat with Robin Williams at one time.
Mr. Conroy’s theatrical career, as told by DC Comics, kicked off in New York and then moved on to the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego.
For an actor, “it’s so much joy to sink your teeth into,” as Mr. Conroy put it. Simply calling this animation would be an injustice. His breakout role in the off-Broadway hit “Eastern Standard,” a dark comedy about a TV producer who is secretly living with AIDS, brought him fame in the late 1980s.
